Medical Gas Competent Person (MGCP) Course (3rd - 5th November 2009)
We are pleased to inform you that the Biomedical Engineering Association of Malaysia (BEAM) will be organizing a Medical Gas Competent Person (MGCP) Course. This is a certified Competent Person course internationally recognised and certified by British Technology (BTEC), designed to equip the relevant Hospital Support Services technical personnel with the required knowledge, skill and competency in Testing, Commissioning, Operating, Maintaining and Managing Medical Gas systems installed in hospitals. It is designed to expose practitioners and engineers on the current methods of design, practice, safety and standards (HTM 02) of medical gas system, complimenting Ministry of Health's effort in making sure that all installed Medical Gas System in every hospitals is maintained and operated safely, and also, in preparation of complying to the up and coming Medical Device Act requirement of the system to be operated by a technically competent and authorised personnel. To this, BEAM would like to invite your technical personnel or any parties to participate in this very important course, which is jointly organised by BEAM and MGPS Services Ltd of UK as appended below;

Venue : Holiday Villa, Alor Setar, Kedah Darul Aman.
Participant Fees : RM 7,500.00 per person (including examination fee)
The MGCP Course will cover the following element:
- Introduction to gas safety and HTM02-01
- Plant and system theory
- Reading pipework drawings
- Basic fault-finding, including responding to routine plant monitoring / alarm system indications
- The MGPS permit to work system
- Installation principles and practices
- MGPS testing (including practical work)
- Emergency procedures
- MGPS maintenance
- Maintenance of terminal units and AVSUs
This course will take 3 days with an end test (multi-choice paper) conducted by MGPS Services Ltd of UK on the last day. Certificates of attendance and an Competent Person Certification will be provided after successful completion of the course. We sincerely believe this course will better equip hospital engineering support services technical managers, engineers and all key players in the healthcare facilities in their technical competence pertaining to medical gas system. We intend to have at least 20 participants to attend this first course, and subsequently, the same numbers for the next courses yearly for it to be successful.
